Abstract
The Mughal Emperor Akbar (1556-1605) was a brilliant ruler. He introduced various reforms to strengthen his empire Politically, Socially and Economically. His monetary system was an important aspect of his reign. This system played an important role in the financial system and trade of the Mughal Empire. There is a linguistic diversity in the coins of the Mughal emperor Akbar. Initially, he used Arabic script on his coins. Later, he abandoned Arabic script and engraved Persian script on his coins. Akbar's coinage and monetary management were exceptional, advanced and precise. He established a single currency system for the Mughal Empire, which facilitated both domestic and international trade in the empire. Emperor Akbar's monetary system had several types of coins. Notable among these was the Rupee; which Emperor Akbar introduced as the first single currency. It was in use throughout his reign. The rupee was the main currency used during the emperor's reign and was popular throughout the Mughal Empire. Another currency introduced by Emperor Akbar was the Dinar. It was a gold coin; which was also used during the time of other Mughal rulers. Another gold coin called Ashrafi was also in use. Which was used especially for high-value transactions. He gave special importance to the quality of his existing currency. Through the quality of the currency, he strengthened his economic system and was able to create confidence among traders. The improvement of his monetary system was helpful in continuing the economic success of the Mughal Empire and it laid the outline for a more advanced monetary system in the future.
