Abstract

Gender disparity in foreign language learning is a significant and widely discussed argument that reflects the psychological, social and cultural dimensions of language education. According to the discoveries of linguistics and biology, there is no biological difference between men and women in terms of language learning. As a result, both males and females are born with the same potential for language acquisition. However, various studies have showed the differences in the pace, strategies and success rates of learning between male and female students. Among Bangladeshi students, it is observed that female learners generally outperform their male counterparts in listening, speaking and reading skills. Gender studies have previously conducted much research on the cognitive differences between men and women across various domains. However, research on the disparity in language learning dynamics between genders remains limited. Therefore, the primary focus of this qualitative research was to find out which gender learns foreign languages more quickly and effectively for which reasons. Additionally, this study highlighted the necessity of adopting gender-sensitive strategies in language education to make the learning experience more inclusive and effective for all students, regardless of gender. This study also proposed some recommendations based on the results found from the data analyzed.
