Abstract

This research presents a theoretical linguistic observation of Gen Z's communicative identity within the dynamic landscape of language use, analyzing their practices across various digital spaces. Their language often diverges from conventional grammatical norms, suggesting a natural linguistic evolution rather than decay. At the Phonological Level, Gen Z exhibits significant acoustic playfullness and sound experimentation, including sporadic and conditioned changes, and expressive lengthening to convey multi-layered emotions. The Morphological Level is defined by extensive lexical innovation, hybrid formations, reliance on English-based abbreviations, and the use of emojis as non-lexical shorthand. Syntactically, the language favors fragmentation and flexibility, prioritizing rapid communication and personal reflection over structured correctness. Finally, the Semantic Level demonstrates radical meaning reconstruction and shift, where established terms are given new metaphorical significance, creating a rich, polyphonic vocabulary that distinctly positions their generational identity and cultural stance. This study proposes these unique stylistic tendencies are key markers of language change in the digital era.
